Tyler & Company has been retained for an exciting search for a Vice President of Support Services for University Health Care System in Augusta, Georgia.

The Organization: University Health Care System is an­chored by the 812-bed University Hos­pital and serves Augusta-Richmond County and the surrounding region. University Hospital is governed by the Board of Trustees of University Health Services, which serves voluntarily to help ensure that our patients have quality medical services. Founded in 1818 as City Hospital, the hospital started on the 100 block of Greene Street. University has since moved through four facilities to its present location, which opened in 1970, and includes its Summerville Campus on Wrightsboro Road. Over the years, the campus has expanded to include the Heart & Vascular Institute and office buildings that house more than 600 private practice physicians and various treatment centers. Universi­ty’s second site, University Hospital McDuffie, moved to its brand-new location in 2015 to serve the residents of Thomson and McDuffie County.

The Opportunity: The Vice President of Support Services is responsible for the successful development, implementation and growth of the Support Services Division.  This role will provide strategic direction for the growth and optimization of the system’s support services areas which include Environmental Services, Safety & (and) Security, Plant Engineering, Food & Nutrition and Patient Transport. The VP of Support Services Provides leadership to the directors and managers of the designated areas. He/she directs activities to ensure the effective and efficient coordination of divisional functions to provide input and an impact on programs and decisions of the University Health Care System (UHCS). The VP will enhance hospital campuses for patients by having strong alignment with the support and clinical functions.

The Candidate: 

The successful candidate will have:

  • A minimum of five years’ progressive managerial and administrative experience in a large hospital environment
  • A minimum of three years’ oversight of large and small construction and renovation activities or plant engineering
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, industrial or civil engineering
  • Master’s degree in business or engineering
  • Current Professional Engineering (PE) license in the state of Georgia

The Community: Located on the Georgia/South Carolina border, Augusta, Ga., lies on the Savannah River, which sup­ports its various economic endeav­ors as well as vast recreation op­tions. The city is the center point of the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA), a 13-county region that includes both Georgia and South Carolina. It is within proximity to many major southern destinations including Atlanta, Columbia and Charlotte.
