President, Penn State Health Hampden Medical Center

Website Tyler & Company

Tyler & Company is pleased to announce we have been retained for an exciting search for a President, Penn State Health Hampden Medical Center (start-up facility) in Enola, Pennsylvania (near Harrisburg and Hershey).

This is an exciting opportunity to staff, equip, develop workflows for, and lead a new, state of the art, community hospital while assisting with integration and systemization efforts, within a newly formed regional healthcare enterprise.

The Organization

Work began in March 2019 at the site of a new Penn State Health acute care hospital.  The $300 million facility will grow to support 1,000 employees and will feature 108 private inpatient beds, an ED, physician offices, specialty inpatient services, imaging\lab services, complete medical and surgical capabilities, and an attached outpatient medical office building.  The hospital will feature an open medical staff, with collaborative programs between PSH faculty physicians and private community providers.  Hampden Medical Center will sit on 44 acres in the Wentworth Corporate Center, located ten minutes from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and 30 minutes from Hershey, PA.

Penn State Health is a fast-growing $2.3 billion regional health care enterprise, now with six hospitals, including an academic medical center/college of medicine, and 57 multi-specialty outpatient clinics across nine counties in central PA.  PSH and Highmark Health (one of the largest health insurance companies in PA) entered into a strategic partnership in 2017 to focus on improving access, quality and affordability of health care for patients and their families in the region.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the EVP, Hospital Operations at PSH, the President will be responsible for the strategic direction and executive level leadership of the Hampden Medical Center once it becomes operational.  There is a primary responsibility to get the Medical Center licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Health as an acute care hospital, and to have the facility properly staffed and equipped, with training and workflows developed to support the delivery of patient care.  Penn State Health is poised for continued growth.

The Candidate

The successful candidate must hold a master’s degree in Hospital/Healthcare Administration, or related field, with at least five years’ executive-level experience.  Previous hospital start-up experience is preferred, as is prior experience in a hospital that was a part of a health system. Community hospital leadership experience is desired and multi-hospital leadership experience is valued.

The Community

Enola, Pennsylvania is located directly across the Susquehanna River from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and is part of the “West Shore” area of Harrisburg — a very attractive and desirable location for suburban living.  The area’s moderate mid-Atlantic climate provides for nice, long summers and early spring weather, accentuated by rolling hills, beautiful lakes and gorgeous countryside views. Harrisburg International Airport offers flights to many major hubs and cities.

~A strong base salary, incentive plan, relocation and executive benefits package is offered~
