Tyler & Company has been retained for an exciting search for a Director of Thoracic Oncology for UR Medicine’s Wilmot Cancer Institute.

The Organization:  UR Medicine’s Wilmot Cancer Institute (WCI) features an 84-bed cancer center with 12 outpatient locations throughout the Rochester and Finger Lakes region.  The facility provides fully integrated inpatient and outpatient clinical, clinical research and laboratory space for cancer.  WCI, a component of Strong Memorial Hospital, offers patients and their families comprehensive services, including one of Upstate New York’s largest blood and marrow transplant programs and the Rochester area’s only ACOS-accredited breast cancer center.  WCI employs ore than 130 physicians providing oncology care, more than 400 registered nurses and advanced practice providers, and a team of scientists who investigate many aspects of cancer, with an emphasis on how best to provide precision cancer care.  WCI is the major resource for comprehensive cancer care, research, education and community outreach in central New York state.

The Opportunity:  The Hematology-Oncology Division at WCI, University of Rochester, is recruiting an experienced clinical investigator to lead an expanding academic and clinical program in thoracic oncology.  This multidisciplinary program consists of surgical, oncologic, radiation, imaging and pathology subspecialists.  The thoracic medical oncology program leader must be committed to clinical excellence, research and teaching.  The selected candidate will be expected to develop the research program by expanding the clinical trial portfolio and bridge the existing comprehensive clinical program with the strong research environment and supporting structures within WCI.  Active participation and engagement in the NCI cooperative groups and other national efforts aimed at furthering thoracic oncology research will be an important component.

The Candidate:  The ideal candidate is a good oncologist who is a senior leader with clinical trial experience and can mentor other faculty. Board certification in medical oncology and the availability to be licensed to practice medicine in the state of New York are required.

The Community:  Rochester consistently receives high rankings nationally as a “most livable city”, for overall quality of life, and as one of the very best places to raise a family.  Situated  east of Buffalo, west of Syracuse and northwest of New York City, it is at the center of a large metropolitan area that includes the neighboring counties of Genesee, Livingston, Ontario, Orleans and Wayne.
