Tyler & Company has been retained for an exciting search for the Chief Medical Officer for Holyoke Medical Center. 

The Organization

Valley Health Systems, Inc. (Valley Health) is a non-profit, integrated community health system serving residents of the beautiful Pioneer Valley region of Western Massachusetts. Valley Health includes Holyoke Medical Center, an acute care community hospital; the Holyoke Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice Life Care; the River Valley Counseling Center; and Holyoke Medical Group. Total operating revenue for Valley Health is approximately $145 million.

Holyoke Medical Center originally opened its doors in 1893 and has grown to be a 198-bed facility with 1,200 employees, marking its 125th year in 2018. Each year Holyoke Medical Center admits more than 7,500 patients, while the Emergency Department currently experiences an annual volume of more than 45,000 visits. A new, state-of-the-art Emergency Department was opened in 2017 featuring 40 treatment areas, multi-patient trauma rooms, advance lifesaving equipment, a patient navigation service, and a Center for Behavioral Health Emergency Services. Holyoke Medical Center has been named a “Top Safety Hospital” by the Leapfrog Group in the past four years.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) will ensure that the medical staff of the hospital practices the best possible quality of medical and surgical care.  The CMO will serve as the liaison between the medical staff and hospital administration to improve communication and cooperation to ensure the delivery of high quality patient care and to provide administrative oversight to the hospitalist service and all other physician services offered by Holyoke Hospital, Inc. The CMO will provide leadership in patient care, identifying opportunities and strategies for quality improvement across all entities of Valley Health Systems, Inc.

The Candidate

The Candidate will hold an MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school. Board Certification in a medical specialty is required, and the physician must hold or be eligible to obtain a Massachusetts medical license. At least 5 years practice experience or more is required. The Candidate will create an environment to meet department standards and goals while maintaining a high level of quality.
