ATLANTA – When Alan D. Johns joined Tyler & Company as Vice President in September 2013, he partnered with Senior Vice President Patricia A. Hoffmeir to meet the growing demand for executive searches within the academic health sciences community. Succeeding Hoffmeir as Practice Chair January 2014, Johns will strategically expand the Academic Medicine and Health Sciences Leadership Practice.

Having nearly 25 years of senior leadership experience in higher education at major private and public universities, Johns' vision is to also enhance the firm’s presence within academic health science centers, teaching hospitals and research center/institutes. His career includes leadership roles within Columbia University, Duke University, Emory University, Georgia Institute of Technology and Virginia Commonwealth University.

“When Alan joined Tyler & Company, we knew he could open our next chapter in executive recruitment within the health sciences (nursing, dentistry, pharmacy, public health, allied health professions and research centers/institutes),” said J. Larry Tyler, FACHE, FHFMA, FAAHC, CMPE, Chairman and CEO.  “We are pleased to offer executive search services for these additional disciplines and have every confidence that under his leadership, the practice will serve a wider and more diverse client base within the academic community.”

Johns' expertise encompasses academic and research administration, finance, business process improvement, performance measurement and enhancement, change management, restructuring and recruitment. He understands firsthand the importance that strategic recruitment plays in enhancing the diverse educational, clinical, and research missions of an academic health science center. This depth of experience enables Johns to understand Tyler & Company’s client’s environment and culture in order to find the best match of talent and mission.

“Please join us in congratulating Alan on his new appointment as leader of Tyler & Company’s Academic Medicine and Health Sciences Leadership Practice,” said Dennis J. Kain, FACHE, President. “He has the full support of our firm, and we look forward to serving our current and future academic medicine clients. Alan knows that recruiting talented and engaged leadership is central to each profession's ability to chart strategic direction and increase its market share, intellectual capital and service to the broader healthcare community. He is a great new asset to our firm, as well as our clients.”

Hoffmeir continues to dedicate herself fully to developing the firm’s academic medicine practice, and she is credited by her colleagues for successfully establishing Tyler & Company as a high-quality executive search solution for the academic medicine community. She continues to offer her recruitment expertise as a senior executive search consultant to a wide variety of clients, as well as a key member of this expanded practice.

Johns is based in Tyler & Company’s Atlanta headquarters and will work closely with the firm’s Philadelphia and Austin offices, as well as its national network of consultants and research associates. Hoffmeir continues to be based in Tyler & Company’s Philadelphia office.
