It has been 12 years since Tyler & Company formed its Northeast Regional Leadership Advisory Board. Sept. 16 marked the board’s 2011 annual meeting, at the Down Town Club in Philadelphia.
"The educational content is enlightening and well presented, and the event’s structure provides attendees a down-to-earth atmosphere to catch up with old friends and meet newcomers as well," says company President Dennis J. Kain, FACHE.
David B. Nash, MD, Dean, Jefferson School of Population Health, gave a rousing keynote presentation: "Real Reform; Real Leadership." This sobering, gloves-off presentation detailed the wide and unfortunate variation of clinical practice across the country today and included recommendations about how far healthcare needs to go in improving clinical quality and reducing clinical variation. Following his presentation, Nash signed copies of his new book, "Demand Better! Revive our Broken Healthcare System."
Kain then described an important early leader — the nation’s first president, George Washington. While serving as general of the American Army, Washington converted several devastating losses and bad managerial decisions into a string of victories using some basic and important lessons on leadership.
Concluding the session, J. Larry Tyler, Chairman and CEO, presented "DiSC Research Results" (for CEOs). The firm’s compilation of more than 4,500 DiSC behavioral profiles on healthcare executives contributed to this eye-opening discussion.
Tyler & Company’s next Northeast Regional Advisory Board Meeting is scheduled for Sept. 28, 2012. Keynote speaker will be Alan M. Zuckerman, FACHE, FAAHC, President, Health Strategies & Solutions, Inc." Invitations will be mailed summer 2012.
